Call for Art at the Oak Park Art League

This May, there will be a group micro show at the Oak Park Art League. A few years ago, Angela Green, curator of the Garrett Museum of Art (in Garrett, Indiana) invited me to work with her on a micro show at that museum – and her vision was that in addition to the box galleries with a mini solo show, each artist would have a full size piece on the wall. It was an incredible show!

One of the artists in that show was Bryan Northup, artist and also Executive Director of the Oak Park Art League in Oak Park, Illinois. Now Bryan and I are collaborating on a new interation of a group micro show! The show will be in May but I’m putting out the call for art now, because folks need time to make the art. Not many people have mini art on hand!

Why do a micro show?

Artists who have shown with me in the micro gallery over the past more than three years (!) have said that having a micro solo show –

• got them out of a creative rut.
• allowed them to envision and create an entire solo show, but at a lower cost, and faster.
• let them experiment and try things that they couldn’t do a full scale.

And – it’s fun!

Here’s the link to the google form.  You’re not expected to have mini art already – how this works is that you share images of your current artwork, possibly including the piece you would want as your full size art piece – and propose what you would make for your micro solo show.

There will be multiple micro solo shows, and also, there are a limited number of spaces, so hurry!
