Introducing: The Safety Scrunchie!

Happy Bike Safety Month! Here’s an easy to sew project that can help improve your visibility, if you have a low ponytail and this would still show under your helmet.

These are the first two I’ve made, next I’ll try some different color schemes using these brighter ribbons:

I’ve also sewn this ribbon onto the cuffs of one of my pairs of jeans, and next, I plan to sew it onto the cuffs of a polar fleece jacket, if possible.

It’s all about pedestrian safety! People drive too fast, don’t stop long enough for a person to fully cross the street, and generally aren’t paying enough attention. Lots of folks also wear dark colored coats, which at night, is really bad idea. Years ago, one of my kids had a coat with retroreflective piping built in to the design. Brilliant! All coats should have that!

If you know how to sew, this tape is affordable, easy to find online, and you can add it to your scrunchies, coats, pants cuffs; you can tie some onto your backpacks. All of the things! In the name of pedestrian and bike safety.
