Clocking in for Unpaid Labor Project News

There’s going to be a book! Early next week, emails will go out to all the participants for whom I have addresses, which is hopefully everyone. I’ll be writing to ask permission to reprint your timecard in the book. The guest essay is written, the graphic designer is lined up to do the layout. All I need is permission and then we’re off!

Please watch your email in-box!

In other timecard news, I got a DM on Instagram asking permission to duplicate the project, including have a show.  Of course I said yes, as that’s part of the whole idea of the project!  I need to do a better job of getting the word out about that.  That deserves it’s own blog post, I’ll write that soon.

Micro Gallery News – Angelica Kauffman Gallery

This year, we’re collaborating with the Oak Park Art League for a group micro show! The call for art will appear on their exhibitions page, probably in February. Here’s the link to their Calls for Artists page.

This will follow the model of the Garrett Museum of Art show, 14 (or so) box galleries, each with a solo show in it, plus one full size piece on the wall.  AND, we’ll have a show by yet another artist in the AKG @ OPAL micro gallery that’s in an architectural niche.  The show will be in May 2025.  I’m looking forward to working with the staff and exhibition committee at OPAL on this show.

Update – the calls for art for this show are now live!
Propose a solo show.
Propose a mini mural.

Solo Show(s) This Year

I’m excited to announce that I have a solo show booked for August 2025 in Michigan! This will include some brand new work that I’m currently hard at work on.  I have more submissions still outstanding and am still applying so there could be more.

What else?

We’ll have to wait and see! I apply for things like it’s my job (oh wait…) and am still waiting to hear back on assorted residencies and shows. I hope to travel to teach and have applied at a couple of places so far. I’ve updated my Teaching page here on the site – check it out!  Now the classes I’m offering are more inline with the art processes I currently use for my own art making.

I’ve been enjoying this winter break and have been in the studio.  Here’s a peak at some of the art I’ve been working on over break –

Making one big quilt out of multiple other quilts, variously overdyed and/or mended and appliquéd. Elaine Luther 2024-2025.

Exactly what this is for, and how you can be part of it, will be revealed soon! Sign up for the substack newsletter (always free) and follow along here to be the first to know!
