Taking Up Space

A group of Chicago area artists who are also mothers get together each May to put on a show of our art. This year, the show is at Positive Space Studios and the lead artist on the project is Jill Nahrstedt.

This show is part of Taking Up Space, an international initiative to encourage women and non-binary artists to host shows of their own work, in formal galleries, or garages, yards, coffee shops, any place!

This year our group’s show is at Positive Space Studios in Humboldt Park in Chicago.

Here are some images of my four pieces in the show – three circles on the wall and one mobile.

Children seated at a low table are drawing. Behind them, on the wall are three circular works of art by Elaine Luther. Each one is a textile collage. The largest one has stripes and quilt stars. Above the children, a mobile made of wood hoops is suspended. The largest hoop has been covered with quilt blocks and the smallest hoop has been painted orange.
